Lead Acid: The Primary Competition
Deep-discharge Lead Acid batteries are the closest competitors to the Xellerion Nickel Zinc battery in overall performance for applications in transportation, such as electric scooters. While Lead Acid batteries are inexpensive, they have lower power and energy densities compared to Nickel-Zinc. The Xellerion Ni-Zn battery has almost twice the specific energy of a Lead Acid battery. The specific power is 3-5 times that of a deep-discharge lead-acid battery. In addition, Lead Acid batteries are not environmentally friendly.

The Xellerion battery has five times the cycle life of these batteries, which cannot generally achieve more than 100 deep cycles. Nickel-Zinc can be continuously deep-discharged to 100% for over 500 cycles without damage to the cell. Deep discharge Lead Acid batteries will lose their rechargeability if they are discharged beyond 80% of their capacity.
